BYD company seal deal on e-bus manufacturing localization
Today, an important milestone in the economic and transportation sector of Azerbaijan has been achieved with the signing of the "Implementation Agreement" for the localization of electric bus production in Azerbaijan in cooperation with China's "BYD Company Limited." The ceremony was attended by First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov, Deputy Minister of Finance Azer Bayramov, Executive Director of BYD for Central Asia and the Caucasus Chao Shuang, Founder and CEO of SARDA Group Rauf Khalilov, and Director of Electrify Azerbaijan LLC, Tariyel Rustamov.
According to the agreement, the project will focus on establishing the production of electric buses and the localization of spare parts in Azerbaijan. It is planned to gradually increase the level of localization to 40% by 2030.
As part of the agreement, 160 electric-powered BYD-branded buses have been brought to the country as a pilot project in the framework of the COP29 conference and are already in operation on the public transportation routes.
The local partner of BYD for this project in Azerbaijan is "Electrify Azerbaijan" LLC, which is operating under the SARDA Group. This project is expected to accelerate the development of eco-friendly transportation in Azerbaijan and have a positive impact on the country's economy. Additionally, it will contribute to advancements in local manufacturing and high-tech industries.
